9 Kid-Friendly Activities on Whidbey Island
Earlier this week on @explorewhidbeyisland, I polled parents of my audience to share kid-friendly activities around Whidbey Island! Here are 9 things to add to your list for a family day out. ⤵️
1. Hiking & Beach Walks
No surprise, this was the top answer, as Whidbey Island is filled with some of the best shoreline hiking trails in Washington state (in my opinion 😉). Please note that Whidbey Island is naturally rocky and cliffs may be present. It’s recommended to research trails to determine comfortability. Popular areas include:
HIKING TRAIL AREAS
🔅 Deception Pass State Park (Discovery Pass required)
🔅 Putney Woods County Park
🔅 Windjammer Park
🔅 South Whidbey State Park (Discovery Pass required)
🔅 Ebey’s Landing (Discovery Pass required)
🔅 Fort Casey State Park (Discovery Pass required)
2. U-Pick Berries
Summertime is magical on Whidbey Island ✨ What adds to that magic are the local farms! You can find various farms offering U-pick berries. A few popular places to add to your list are:
LOCAL U-PICK FARMS
🫐 Silva Family Farm
🫐 Bonnies Blueberries
🫐 Eckholm Farm
🫐 Bell’s Farm
3. Windjammer Park
Windjammer Park is located in Oak Harbor. It’s a beautiful park located right on the shoreline. 🌊
Windjammer has a splash park, playground, baseball fields, basketball courts, and walking trails along the beach.
4. Fort Casey State Park
Enjoy stunning views of the Admiralty Inlet and the Strait of Juan de Fuca at Fort Casey State Park.
Spend the day touring the military structure of Fort Casey, walking the shoreline trails, flying a kite, or enjoying a picnic on the expansive grounds. 🪁
Dogs are allowed on leash, and a Discovery Pass is required. ($30/year or $10/day)
5. Price Sculpture Forest
Take a stroll in the woods and enjoy the blend of nature and art. 🌿 Price Sculpture Forest is an outdoor art display located in Coupeville. Admission is free with encouraged donations. No dogs allowed.

🍦 Kapaw's Iskreme (open during the summer)
🍦 Whidbey Island Ice Cream Co (open Memorial Day-Labor Day)
🍦 Ciao Food & Wine (Gelato)
FROZEN YOGURT
🍧 Toppins Frozen Yogurt
7. Roller Skating
Ohhhhhh yeah friends, rollerblading is still alive and well 🛼 Located in Oak Harbor, the Roller Barn offers skating, laser tag, an arcade, and pickleball! The venue is also available to rent for events.

9. Local Farms
One of my most favorite things about Whidbey Island is its rich farm culture! I absolutely love spending a summer day farm hopping collecting my favorite vegetables or buying from local artisans. Most farms have a few activities to keep the kids occupied, such as corn hole, picnic areas, or volleyball. Here are a few farms with kid-friendly activities:
🚜 K&R Farms Stand (farm stand, volleyball, picnic areas - pumpkins & sunflowers during fall)
🚜 Ballydídean Farm Sanctuary (petting farm with tour - admission required)
🚜 Greenbank Farm (farm stand, off-leash dog park, playground)
🚜 Bell’s Farm (farm tours)
Hope these suggestions help when you run into the inevitable “what do we do this weekend” question. 🫶🏻
